“Y de Pronto el Amanecer”, la película chilena nominada al Oscar, fue ovacionada por los asistentes al Castro Theatre de San Francisco, California. Una vasta diversidad de artistas y grupos culturales de diferentes sectores repletaron el lugar. “Es emocionante ver a la diversidad de expresiones culturales disfrutar del cine y de tu trabajo”, señaló el cineasta.

Reel local news: Chile Lindo cafe owner adds a film festival to the menu

Paula Tejeda is famous for her empanadas, the product of her deli and cafe, Chile Lindo, in San Francisco’s Mission District. But the native New Yorker and former TV producer also promotes Chile, her ancestral country, through a newsletter and events. Her latest endeavor, Cine Chileno in San Francisco, taking place next Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Castro Theatre, is a retrospective of the work of Chilean auteur Silvio Caiozzi.

Member Spotlight: Paula Tejeda of Cine Chileno in San Francisco

Paula Tejeda is founder of the project Cine Chileno in San Francisco, an annual film festival celebrating Chilean filmmakers, and the traditional Chilean-style delicatessan Chile Lindo. Her work seeks to create community through the sharing of Chilean film, cuisine, and culture. Paula has been a member of Fractured Atlas since January 2018.

The inaugural year of Cine Chileno in San Francisco features a retrospective screening of renowned Chilean producer/director Silvio Caiozzi, including his best works from 44 years of a career in film and television and the US premiere of “…And Suddenly the Dawn,” Chile’s submission to the foreign-language category at the 2019 Oscars. This film already won the Grand Prix of the Americas (Best Film) at the prestigious Montreal World Film Festival.

Chilean director Silvio Caiozzi gets a retrospective Sunday at the Castro

On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Castro Theater, Paula Tejeda, the tireless owner of Chile Lindo, will present the first annual “Cine Chileno in San Francisco” with a retrospective of Chilean director Silvio Caiozzi’s work. As a bonus, Caiozzi will be on hand for a Q&A after the 7 p.m. showing of Y de Pronto El Amanecer (And Suddenly the Dawn, 2017), one of Chile’s contenders for the 2019 Oscars.
